Canoeing 19 miles down the Brazos while battling pneumonia is not an experience many can attest to having. Blake Lupton recounted his wife, Heather, achieving this feat: “We stayed in a tent on the river and then finished the journey. There was no wind or current and we had to paddle the entire way,” Blake said.
Heather was ill throughout the trip, with the pneumonia diagnosis not coming to light until it had ended. “We laughed during it and even now reminiscing on it, but it just proves that when she puts her mind to something, she literally won’t be stopped!”
The married couple spent their first date at Top Golf, where Heather’s stellar swing was on display. The two felt a strong connection immediately, exchanging stories and details of the past, good and bad: “We felt comfortable enough to share everything,” Blake declared. “She even busted out a meat and cheese tray back at her apartment, which I love!”
When Heather is taking a break from her work as a Senior Project Manager, she can be found working in the yard and taking old or used items and creating something new and functional. Heather enjoys the outdoors and hiking, which certainly explains her affection for other beings in nature: “Heather is extremely unselfish, compassionate and has a love of animals,” Blake said.
Of course, this love is first shared with her daughter, Ivy, and son, Jack. Strong in her convictions, Heather can be described as stern, but fair, in parenting: “Heather teaches our children schoolwork and great life lessons while keeping things fun and interesting. She is very smart, passionate, and a loving mother.”
The family has enjoyed many travels together, featuring a cruise trip to the Virgin Islands before the children were born, visits to relatives in Denver, and trips to Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Blake credits his wonderful wife with a great deal of his own growth as well, saying that she “makes me a better person by challenging me emotionally and intellectually. She makes me a better person by leading by example. Heather has taught me to always be yourself, to put others’ needs before your own, and to stay humble.”
This Mother’s Day, Blake hopes to honor Heather with all of the admiration and love she deserves: “I have loved her since the first time we met, and even though we’ve had our ups and downs, I’ve never stopped loving her. She is a kind, selfless, and compassionate partner and an even better mother!”
