Wes and Amanda Baygents weren’t looking for love when they were working at Delta Engineering, but luckily, they found each other.
Wes first saw her when he had to give her a safety orientation, and he loved her smile and how sweet she seemed, so he asked the receptionist to snoop and find out if Amanda was single.
“I asked her to go to lunch and then we began talking on the phone for hours on end before our first actual date,” Wes said. “Our date was at a restaurant called Al T’s in Winnie, Texas. We were both nervous, so we held hands on the way to the restaurant just to calm each other’s nerves.”
After dinner they went dancing at Whiskey River, even though Wes is admittedly a terrible dancer. He tried his best and the date was a success. They knew early on that they were perfect for each other, and they have been together since.
Wes laughed when he remembered proposing to Amanda because he dropped the ring and was fearful that he damaged or lost it. The couple have made countless memories, including traveling together to Florida, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, and cruising to Cozumel.
“I also tease her about killing off singers of bands,” Wes said. “We have attended many concerts over the years and curiously several singers have died shortly after we attended their shows, including Tom Petty and Glenn Frey.”
Wes said Amanda is dedicated, organized and hardworking, qualities that help her excel at her job as a tendering manager for Koil Energy. Basically, the company would be lost without her, as she created their estimating template and wrote their estimating procedure.
She has two biological children, Katelyn and Nathan, and two stepchildren, Brea and Bryan. Wes said she is very loving and caring, and she would do anything for all of them.
“Amanda is selfless and always puts the kids’ well-being and activities ahead of our wants,” Wes said. “She focused so hard on their well-being and preparation for adulthood. She was fair, but stern when she needed to be, and thanks to her, they have become wonderful young adults.”
Wes said Amanda makes him a better person because of her faith in him. “There is not a thing in this world that she doesn’t fully believe that I could do if I put my mind to it,” he added.
“Amanda is beautiful, and her smile and eyes can light up a room,” Wes said, adding, “Her happiness is infectious to me; I crave to make her happy. She means everything to me. We have a special bond that I know is a rarity in this world. I know there is no such thing as a soulmate, but we are about as compatible as a couple can be. It’s a rare thing to have and share what Amanda and I do. I love her more every day.”
