Every proposal story has their own unique twist, but not all of them have as smelly a twist as Derek and Jenny Parham’s. That is because Derek plopped down on one knee as Jenny got back from walking the dogs… and had dog poop in her hand. He just could not wait to propose to her any longer, though, and it makes for a funny story for them to reflect back on.
Of course, Jenny happily obliged to Derek’s proposal and for Derek, marrying her was the easiest decision he has ever made. Jenny makes his world go round and she is special in every way. She lives life the way Derek strives to live his, and he looks up to her because of this.
“I want to be like her in so many ways,” he said. “She doesn’t even know it. She encourages me to be myself even when I don’t want to be.”
Genuineness is something about Jenny that has always attracted Derek to her. She is truly herself 24/7, and she encourages others to do the same.
She is also a model parent, as anyone who spends any sort of time with Jenny realizes she is the best mom. Beau and Evie are everything to her, and as those little ones grow up, they will know nothing short of unending love and nurturing from their mother.
“Everything. Everything she does makes her great,” Derek said when asked about Jenny as a mom. “The way she cares. The way she works at it. The way she tries new things. The amount of love her heart has for her family and friends is what makes her good, great, grand and wonderful.”
The fact that Jenny is a tremendous mother should come as zero surprise, as she has always been an excellent daughter and little sister. Her parents, brother and sister have always loved how wonderful she is, and they are grateful to have Jenny as their family member.
Jenny is a loving dog mom too; George and Charlie are spoiled to no end.
As are the students who are in her school district. Jenny is the director of student nutrition for over 45 campus cafeterias, and those kids eat healthier than most thanks to her.
Of course, just in general Jenny is a giving and thoughtful individual. She is selfless in her ways, and she goes out of her way to take care of anyone.
“I admire her will to give and help others,” Derek said. “She is always willing to help an employee who got evicted, or help a coworker who cannot pick up their kids at that moment in time. She’ll chase down a stray dog to help find it a home. She donates to charities and gives to the church. Her heart is what I admire the most.”
Derek admires so many things about his wife that it would take a lot more than one page to mention them all, but what should be pointed out is that, right from the beginning, she was so easy to talk to. Derek got along with Jenny and could talk to her for hours without realizing it, and that is because being in her presence is truly something else.
“I love her smile and peppiness,” Derek said. “She wakes up every morning excited about the day and happy to be alive. She is a foodie. I have and still am learning to cook to impress her.”
When your wife loves her food and deserves the best, you better strive to cook her the best meals just like Derek does.
But in all honesty, he just wants to make her happy every day. Whether they are participating in sporty activities together or just sitting at home playing with the kiddos, being around Jenny all the time is like being in the presence of an angel.
“She is just a fun-loving, supportive dog lover with one of the biggest hearts around,” Derek said. “She loves bettering herself any chance she gets.”
The crazy part is, there are no flaws to this woman, so Jenny bettering herself is just going above and beyond her already astute personality. Oh yeah, she can also hit a softball the way she knocks every area of life out of the park. She works hard and loves harder, and she is truly one of one.
“I love you, Jenny Parham. Always have; always will. You are the backbone to this family. You are the glue. You are the rock. You are the scissors. I am the paper. Happy Valentine’s Day! I look forward to celebrating at least 40 more years of Valentine’s Days with you.” – Derek
