Troy and Maureen Teschner’s story proves that love doesn’t always show up where you expect it. The two first crossed paths more than 15 years ago through a youth sports program, and over the years that followed, they discovered just how much they had in common — a love of travel, a strong work ethic, and family above everything else.

That history is part of what makes their marriage feel so solid, even as newlyweds. Troy proposed to Maureen at Disney World, a fitting move given her well-known love of all things Disney, and the two have since built a life stacked with shared memories — catching a foul ball at Wrigley Field, a Formula 1 race in Canada, and a honeymoon trip to France still ahead of them.

Blending their families came naturally. Maureen embraced Troy’s kids from the start, and Troy has watched with real appreciation how she’s shown up for all of them without ever overstepping.

“She’s very outgoing,” Troy said. “She’s willing to be engaging, and she gives me comfort. I needed somebody like that.”

Where Troy tends to keep to himself, Maureen is the connector of the two — a trait that shows up at home and at work alike, where she’s been recognized repeatedly by coworkers for her selflessness and her knack for bringing people together.

Troy, for his part, brings his own steady presence: a Duke basketball fan who builds an elaborate Christmas village display every year and quietly handles more than his share of behind-the-scenes support for his family.

Despite their differences — Maureen the people-person, Troy the homebody — those who know them best say the two balance each other perfectly, each willing to step outside their comfort zone for the other.

“Maureen, I love you with all my heart,” Troy said. “This is just the first of what I hope to be many, many anniversaries together.”
