She is a supporter. She is slow to judge and lacks a condescending bone in her body. She prays for her husband, children, and friends every day.
This wonderful woman, Karen Klay, is the love of Brian’s life and the one who originally got away. The two go way back – Karen was a high school senior, a nurturer, and Brian was a “cute little adorable” freshman who did everything he could to spend time with her. But, as life happens, they went their separate ways. When they became reacquainted 22 years later, they caught feelings for each other… but the relationship did not come without its prerequisites.
“When we got to the point where she was open to having someone come into her life again, she made a list of everything she wants in a man,” Brian said. “One was a strong man of faith in God. She told me I would not have gotten past that first step had it not been for that. The Bible says about not being unequally yoked, and we are not.”
For Brian and Karen, God is the main focus of their relationship and their lives. He is their driving force, and their faith is stronger than ever before because of their equal love for Him.
In fact, they have been going to Heritage Fellowship Church together since they first attended, and that alone shows the aligning of God’s timing and putting them right where they are meant to be.
Karen lives a life like Jesus. She treats people well, has a servant’s heart, and every day she is finding new ways to show up for the people in her life.
“What makes her a great wife and person is definitely her loving character,” Brian said. “How she makes me, and other people feel. There is a reason I had a first crush on her. I find her highly attractive.”
Decades after they first met, Brian still would do “practically anything” for Karen. That is how much he loves her and how much he believes she deserves in a man.
“She tries to teach me my own worth,” Brian said. “Saying that I am worth her time, love and attention means a lot.”
Karen is an uplifting person who brings out the best in everyone. She makes sure people feel loved and know their worth, and she has certainly done this with her two sons. Ezekiel and Xavier are her world on top of it all, and she makes sure they both realize this.
“She is definitely a lover,” Brian said. “She just pours out her love into her kids.”
Growing up, Karen was close to both her parents, and she reflects that in the way she is raising her boys. She instills the importance of being tight-knit and remaining in each other’s corners, and that will go a long way as they continue to develop.
Overall, Karen is just one awesome woman. She is a third grade-teaching, Mary Kay-selling, Netflix-watching woman of God who is assuredly up for the Best Wife Ever award. Brian loves her for about a million reasons, and it is easy to see why.
“I love you, Wife, and I hope you like this.”
