Ellen Beasley first caught her husband’s eye while handing out free Coors Light at a sand volleyball league in San Antonio, Texas.
“I looked at my buddy and said, ‘I’m going to marry that woman,’” Matt Beasley recalls.
At first, it was just a little joke because Ellen was handing out his favorite beer. But soon, Matt started doing his best to flirt and ask her out.
As the months went by, Matt and Ellen interacted periodically. After about a year, they finally went out.
“She called me ‘pleasantly persistent,’” Matt said with a smile. “The rest is history.”
Matt’s persistence in the beginning of their relationship reflects the no-quit attitude that defines the Beasley’s marriage. Ellen is a chain sales executive for Molson Coors Beverage Company, living out the tenacity and effort that Matt had to demonstrate in the year before they started dating.
“She doesn’t allow me to quit anything,” said Matt. “She is compassionate, but firm.”
Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to John and MaryKay McIlquham, Ellen is a midwestern girl turned Texan. She has an older brother named Jake, and the couple have two children, 3-year-old Trayson John and 4-month-old Evelyn Sue Beasley.
“My favorite quality about Ellen is how GREAT of a mother she is,” Matt said. “Her patience and compassion make her an amazing mom.”
Because of her character and unwillingness to quit, Ellen motivates Matt to be a better husband and father every single day.
“I admire her drive and her compassion as a mother and spouse,” Matt said. “She pushes me to continue to better myself as a father and husband.”
Matt also admires Ellen’s creativity with birthday or holiday celebrations.
“She LOVES to build balloon arches and throw incredible parties,” he said.
Ellen reads as a hobby and loves to hang out with friends. Together, Matt and Ellen like to watch movies and play golf.
They have enjoyed some amazing trips together as well, including Hawaii for their honeymoon and Iceland for their 30th birthdays. In Iceland, they had an unforgettable stay in a glass hut.
“It was so cool,” Matt said.
Another top memory for the couple is Matt spinning Ellen around on the dance floor at Billy Bob’s Texas music venue to songs by Parker McCollum.
Since Matt’s lighthearted prediction to his buddy, the two have created a strong bond. They have not quit showing toughness and supporting each other through all the ups and downs.
This Valentine’s Day, they look forward to the days ahead.
“I want her to know how much she is loved by me and how enamored I am with her,” said Matt. “I cannot wait to spend the rest of our lives together.”
