Dave always tells his grandkids, “I’m very proud of you,” and Rose reminds them, “Never say sorry.” And both of these recirculated phrases carry so much weight because of who Dave and Rose are. They are a couple who love their kids and grandkids more than anything, and they are two people who are looked up to by many all around them.
“Everything makes them good parents,” their son Matt said. “They raised us to be good people and do the right things. They provided love and support throughout our lives, showed us how to be strong and resilient, and to be there for each other.”
Dave, Matt, Brian, Kristen and Kelly might not have realized it while growing up, but as they have kids of their own now, they all recognize how many sacrifices their parents made over the years. From all the times they took Brian to PT when he was super young to all the times they were running the five of them all over creation to practices and extracurricular activities, Dave and Rose were always doing for their kids and gave up so much of themselves to take care of them.
They are much the same way as grandparents now, as they still don’t miss the sporting events or school activities. They show up and they show out for their grandkids the way they did for their kids, and this is much appreciated.
What is also appreciated is all the memories the grandkids get to make with Dave and Rose. Whether they are playing in the water together, reading stories, snuggling, or whether Grandma and Grandpa are just reminding their grandkids how much they love them, moments with them are certainly cherished.
“I love to go to the zoo with them and doing art projects,” granddaughter Sloan said. “I love our ‘movie in bed’ time.”
“Board games with grandpa and Legos with Grandma, watching movies, walking around looking at Christmas lights, and reading with Grandpa,” grandson Leo added.
Of course, there are countless other memories the grandkids could mention, but there are not enough words on a page to talk about them all… or to talk too much about the lost wallet at football practice incident…
Then, there are the personalities of Dave and Rose, who not only complement each other so well, but they are two of the most genuine, loving people you will ever meet. They love the time they get to travel together or spend with family or friends, and Dave and Rose will be the first to tell you that everything in their lives is all about others.
“They are kind, loving, supportive, always there no matter what, welcoming, family first, strong, and resilient,” Matt said.
No matter what is going on in life, these two always have smiles on their faces. They care so much about others, and they live their lives by the Golden Rule.
Not only that, but the two of them are role models in every way. Everyone around them looks up to them because they are truly positive forces. They tell people what they need to hear, and their sense of compassion is second to none.
“I have learned that me and my brothers are very special,” Sloan said.
To some, this might not sound like much, but to Sloan and her brothers, this simple reminder means everything. Especially coming from their grandparents.
“Grandpa taught me how to play the Wii,” grandson Jake said. “I learned Grandpa used to play the trumpet, and they love me.”
To know for a fact that your grandparents love you – and that they show it and tell it every time you are around them – is truly special. It is something that you carry with you for the rest of your life, and that is exactly what Sloan, Crosby, Jett and Otis, Leo, Jake, Bennett, Sasha, and Penelope will do, and that is all because of how amazing and wonderful their grandparents are.
Of course, Dave, Matt, Brian, Kristen and Kelly all appreciate their parents more than they might realize, and Dave and Rose certainly deserve to be honored and celebrated every day. Every sacrifice they made and every statement of being proud and loving their kids paid off, and they should continue to be proud of their kids and grandchildren every single day.
“We want them to know how much we all love and appreciate them for everything they have done and continue to do for us and grandkids, from the weeklong sleepovers with the grandkids; dropping everything to go across the country to watch kids; being there for grandkids’ birthdays, sports and concerts; and just being around continuing to create lasting memories with all of us.”
