Lando G. Robinson Jr. brightens the lives of those around him just by being him. He is also an impactful presence who is very uplifting and has a way of bringing out the best in everyone all around him.
Lando is someone who would do anything for his family as well. He has been there for them since day one, and this retired steelworker is the epitome of hard work and determination. His West Virginia Mountaineers fandom shows his dedication too, reminding everyone that he has a healthy balance of living life the right way.
“Dad supported us in every way imaginable,” Lando’s son Matthew said. “His goal was for us to have a better life than he had. Sometimes he would work ‘doubles’ every shift for seven days straight to provide for his family (that’s a 112-hour workweek if I did math right). My sister and I were so close because our parents loved us equally. Dad knew when to be tough and when to be soft.”
That is that steelworker in him. Lando has that tough grit mentality, but at the same time he loves his family with his whole heart. He knew when tough love needed to take precedence and he knew when to just be Dad.
Speaking of being Dad, Lando was always a role model to both Matthew and his late sister Lori. They both looked up to him growing up, and even since then they have as well. Lando instilled so many great things into his children, from how to treat your spouse to how to treat others.
“Dad is kind to others,” Matthew said. “He’s kind to strangers, but more importantly, he’s kind to the people he loves. He’s generous. He donates generously to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. I just saw him buy four bikes to donate to underprivileged kids for Christmas. He’s a mentor and role model for me.”
If you ever need a reminder of what life is all about, just shadow Lando for a day or two. He lives life the right way, with a good mix of selflessness, family life, and spending time on his hobbies – gardening, building birdhouses and feeding wildlife are just a few.
Lando is a very welcoming individual too. When Matthew got together with his now-wife Casey, Lando was very accepting of her, and she feels that acceptance to this day.
“Lando means the world to me,” she said. “He is a great person. He will do anything for his family. He is loving and caring and a great grandfather. I could not ask for a better father-in-law.”
Oh, and when it comes to being a grandfather, Lando shows up and shows out. He attends their sporting events and showers them with love, and even with two grandsons and five step-grandchildren, he figures out a way to treat them each individually while also loving on each of them equally.
“Dad playing with my kids is amazing to me,” Matthew said.
This does not surprise Matthew whatsoever though. When he and Lori were growing up, their father would take them swimming, fishing and hunting, and he showed up to as many of their activities as he could. He always provided those pillars of support and encouragement as a father, and he is doing the same as a grandfather now too.
“Dad’s my hero,” Matthew said. “He’s a mentor and a great role model. I hope I can have half the impact on my kids’ lives that Dad’s had on mine.”
“What makes Lando a great grandfather is his love for his grandchildren,” Casey added. “He plays with them. He tells them stories and visits all the time. He is amazing.”
Lando shows up and he shows out, and he has been doing that since day one. He is a provider and a caring presence, and his kids learned from an early age that he might appear tough and gritty on the outside, but that is because of how much he cares about his family and wants to protect them.
His ability to make memories by making up phone numbers or riding ATVs is tremendous. Lando’s utter selflessness and doing hobbies that can help him be able to give back to others in the long run is also amazing. He is just a kind, accepting, loving individual, and every moment spent with Lando makes you more like him (in the best way possible).
“I want him to know just how much I love him. How much he means to not only me, but my wife, Casey, and my kids, Matthew and Nolan. I want him to know he’s impacted a lot of lives.” – Matthew
