Worth the Risk: Tyler took a big risk to be with Katie, but she was definitely worth it all

After meeting an incredible woman on a work trip to Seattle, Tyler Massay upended his life in Dallas and went out on a wing and a prayer. He had no job lined up, but he told a little white lie to Katie that he was transferred up there. She could see right through him, but because of how much they started caring for one another right off the bat, she did not complain.

Thankfully, Tyler did land a full-time job, and even more importantly, he landed the girl of his dreams. This woman filled with positivity and great conversations is someone who helps keep Tyler grounded and calm, and he appreciates everything about her.

This includes her ability to parent, as she was already doing a phenomenal job while being a single mother before Tyler entered the fray. Those boys have such a strong connection and relationship with their mother, and that is all thanks to her raising them right.

“She is beyond patient,” Tyler said. “She was just amazing with our youngest… All the sacrifices she’s made. We have two amazing kids at home. She drives 45 minutes one way three times a week to get our one son to soccer.”

Raising these two boys has not come without challenges either, but Katie will make any phone call or trip necessary to make sure her sons are taken care of.

At the same time, Katie has a whole lot of patience with the boys, which is a virtue Tyler said he has learned from his wife. He has also learned how to love unconditionally and remain calm under pressure. His wife’s positive vibes and “it is what it is” attitude help Tyler every day, and they are part of why she is the person she is today.

What also makes Katie who she is is a carer. When Tyler’s mom got diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, Katie did so much of the grunt work to get her set up with at-home care and so much more, and thanks in large part to all of Katie’s arrangements and worry-free attitude, her mother-in-law is now cancer free.

Katie has a great sense of humor to her too, and she is overall just a great individual. The more you dive into who she is, the more you realize how special and amazing she truly is.

“I admire her constant loving personality, and that she is so easygoing,” Tyler said.

Another thing that stands out to Tyler is how hard of a worker his wife is. Katie is a safety manager at Kiewit, and she is an excellent one at that.

“Her work ethic is really impressive,” Tyler said. “She has a work phone and a personal phone, and her work phone is always going off.”

Katie is used to putting out fires at work and at home, and she would not have it any other way. She handles it all with such poise, professionalism, and just the right amount of love. She is just an unbelievable individual, and it is no wonder her husband and boys appreciate her this much.
